SURF Music is proud to announce the launch of the Noriko Kose “Still I Miss You” Sampling Contest, in collaboration with tribe, the record label founded by the late legendary producer Nujabes, and Hypebeast. The contest officially kicks off today, Wednesday, October 15. Founded by the globally acclaimed producer Nujabes, tribe is celebrated for its distinctive sound and timeless musicality, continuing to inspire listeners around the world. For this contest, creators will use as sampling material “Still I Miss You,” a new track by Noriko Kose — a continuation of her classic “I Miss You,” which was famously sampled in Nujabes’ masterpiece “reflection eternal.” Through this project, we aim to provide creators across the globe with the opportunity to produce new, original works freely — expanding the possibilities of sound that bridge the past, present, and future. ■ Overview In collaboration with tribe, the label founded by Nujabes, and Hypebeast, SURF Music is proud to present the Noriko Kose “Still I Miss You” Sampling Contest. Participants are invited to create original tracks using Noriko Kose’s new song “Still I Miss You” as the sampling material, expressing their own unique musical sensibilities. There are no restrictions on genre or style — this contest celebrates creative freedom and the limitless possibilities of sound that connect the past, present, and future. ■ Entry Period October 15, 2025 (Wed) 12:00 PM JST – November 30, 2025 (Sun) 11:59 PM JST From all submissions, one Grand Prize Winner and several Outstanding Works will be selected. “I Miss You” was sampled in Nujabes’ “Reflection Eternal.” In 2024–2025, she participated in the Nujabes Tribute Live Tour. She composed the music for the NHK Special “Can We Save Them from Extinction? The Legendary Amur Leopard.”She also composed for the film “My Lyrical Times” (directed by Ren Shoken), which won the Technical Award and Planning Award at the Pia Film Festival. Other credits include: - Music composition for NHK BSP’s “Satoyama: Japan’s Secret Water Garden” - Music participation in NHK’s “Tiny Cosmos Beneath Our Feet”, which won the 40th Broadcasting Culture Foundation Award for Best Television Entertainment Program - Music for Chiba City’s original musical “A Dream Blossoming in the Night Sky”, and Chiba Musical Academy’s “My Name is Love” and “Love is All Music” - Music composition for the film “Hana no Ato Saki”, which won the Kinema Junpo Cultural Film Award She also composed the theme and insert songs for NHK Special “New Visual Poem: Satoyama” (Niigata and Aso editions), which won numerous international awards, including: - Best Natural World Program at the AIB International Media Awards (UK) - ABU Television Documentary Award (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union) - Lumière Japan Award (8K Division – Grand Prize) - Lumière Award (USA – 8K Division – Grand Prize) - Gold Prize at the Deauville Green Awards (France) In 2024, the song “Uso,” a collaboration with poet Shuntaro Tanikawa, was featured on Hypnosis Mic’s “Fling Posse” (King Records).
