Starting today, the SURF Music × Rol3ert “savior” Remix Contest is officially live. Rol3ert is a 20-year-old singer-songwriter and producer born in the US and raised in Japan. His music blends English lyrics that feel familiar to Western listeners with the emotional restraint and intimacy shaped by his Japanese upbringing. “savior” has already become one of the most exciting breakout tracks from Japan’s new global generation, with over 1.5 million Spotify streams, placements across 120 Spotify playlists, a combined playlist reach of more than 3M listeners, and nearly 2.9M views and over 145,000 likes on TikTok. This remix contest is an opportunity to reinterpret “savior” in your own creative world. Whether your sound is electronic, club, alt-pop, indie, hyperpop, R&B, or something that defies genres altogether, there is plenty of room to build on the track’s emotional core and take it somewhere new. Participants are free to add their own rap or vocal performances to the remix. Whether you bring a brand-new verse, an original hook, or layered ad-libs — your voice and your words are welcome here. A remix of “savior” is not about starting from scratch. It is about stepping into an existing story and making it your own. Important Notes Regarding Submissions • A SURF account is required to submit an entry. • Copyright of winning works belongs to the original rights holder (Exciter Records). • However, if a submission includes newly created lyrical elements such as rap verses, vocal performances with additional original lyrics, the parties may consider recognizing those contributions as a derivative work, in which case a publishing split may be negotiated. In such cases, and in line with Japanese copyright registration practices, the arrangement will be governed by a separate agreement with the original song's registered publisher. Rol3ert (pronounced Robert) is a 20-year-old singer-songwriter and producer born in the United States and raised in Japan, an origin that defines everything about how he makes music. His songs live in the space between two worlds: English lyrics that feel immediately familiar to Western ears, delivered with a lyrical intimacy and emotional restraint shaped entirely by his Japanese upbringing. Since debuting in January 2025, Rol3ert has moved with rare velocity. His viral Instagram covers surpassed 4 million views before a single original track was released. His single "savior" landed on Spotify's New Music Friday in 22 countries, earned a Times Square billboard placement in New York, and led directly to his selection as a Spotify RADAR 2026 artist. His follow-up, "(how could i be) honest?", reached editorial playlists across 18 countries and climbed to #5 on the Singapore Shazam chart after heavy rotation on Mediacorp 987FM. He now counts 351,773 monthly listeners across 14+ countries, growing 34% in the last 28 days alone, without a single targeted Western push behind it.
